School-Schedule Position | Monday–Friday | No Evenings | No Weekends | No On-Call

A Step in the Right Direction DBA Intentional Wellness Group is hiring a Qualified Professional (QP) to join our Day Treatment Program, working directly with children and adolescents in a structured therapeutic classroom designed to help youth stabilize symptoms, build coping skills, and successfully return to a traditional school environment.

This position allows professionals to work closely with youth throughout the school day, helping them develop the emotional regulation, behavioral, and social skills needed to succeed in the classroom and community.

Professionals with experience in school settings, behavioral health, Intensive In-Home (IIH), residential treatment, or child and family services are encouraged to apply.

Schedule

Monday – Friday | Daytime hours aligned with the school schedule

This position provides the opportunity to work in a therapeutic environment with youth while maintaining a consistent weekday schedule.

Compensation:

Salary range starts at $41,000 annually

Position Summary

The Qualified Professional will co-lead a therapeutic classroom serving approximately 8–12 youth. Staff work together to provide structured activities, behavioral support, and therapeutic interventions that help youth manage symptoms and improve their ability to function successfully in school.

The goal of the program is to help youth build the emotional, behavioral, and social skills needed to transition back into a traditional classroom setting.

Key Responsibilities

Therapeutic Classroom Support
• Co-lead a structured therapeutic classroom serving 8–12 youth
• Facilitate psychoeducational groups and therapeutic skill-building activities
• Teach coping, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Reinforce positive behavioral strategies and classroom functioning

Skill Development & Symptom Management
• Engage youth in activities designed to reduce symptoms and increase emotional regulation
• Support development of social skills and positive peer interactions
• Provide real-time coaching to help youth manage behaviors and emotional responses
• Reinforce strategies that help youth succeed in a traditional classroom environment

Structured Activities
• Lead therapeutic classroom activities that promote engagement and skill development
• Incorporate movement, recreation, and experiential learning opportunities that support treatment goals

Documentation
• Complete service documentation accurately and within required timeframes
• Maintain documentation in compliance with North Carolina Service Record Standards

Minimum Qualifications
• Must meet North Carolina Qualified Professional (QP) standards working with the child and adolescent mental/behavioral health population

 

Experience:
• Mental Health: 2 years (Required)

 

Education:

Mental Health Day Treatment Based Therapist

The Therapist will work with children and adolescents providing individual and group therapy for elementary, middle and/ or high school students.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Masters of Social Work (MSW) (or closely related degree/LPCA/LMFT).

Must have a North Carolina license. LCSWA/LPCA/LMFTA or be fully licensed.

One year experience in behavioral health or the educational field. Internship and practicum time included.

Knowledge and experience in providing individual and family therapy utilizing evidence based treatment models preferred

Must be Medicaid/MCO billable, or have ability to become eligible.

Demonstrates ability to work as an effective member of a multi-disciplined team.

Demonstrate proven sensitivity to the various cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of consumers and their families

Position Summary: The Therapist has the primary responsibility to develop, direct and monitor treatment for all clients, and their families assigned to their caseload. The Therapist will work with children and adolescents providing individual and group therapy for elementary, middle and/ or high school students.

Essential Job Duties:

Facilitate therapeutic and psycho-educational groups.

Engage families in services and provide parent education information and inclusion in attainment of the client’s treatment goals.

Conduct and complete comprehensive assessments that meet medical necessity and diagnostic requirements for treatment.

Develop individual treatment plans with goals based upon the findings in the comprehensive assessments.

Complete documentation in a timely manner with progress notes and monthly updates recording the progress on goals.

Provide individual/family therapy based on current needs and treatment plans of each client

Maintains current records on each child in accordance with agency policies and state regulations.

Communicate and collaborate with families, referral agents, and other interested parties, (i.e., judges, schools, DCBS, DJJ, and other referral agents) regarding children’s treatment.

Day Treatment EC (Exceptional Children) Teacher

REPORTS TO:
Program Director

The EC Teacher will teach subjects in the day treatment to students with serious emotional and behavioral problems in learning by performing the following duties.

EC Teacher Social Skills Specific:
• Work with children in 1:1 or small group settings to provide social skills to children as written in the IEP (if applicable)
• Create lessons, and strategies that meet the specific needs of the students and maintain progress monitoring records.
• Coordinate with day treatment-based program director and/or other EC teachers to ensure consistent practices.
• Assist program director in developing goals, interventions, or strategies based on evidence from social skill lessons and progress reports.
• Collaborate with day treatment personnel and mental health staff to coordinate student goals and expectations (when necessary).
• Build meaningful relationships with students as individuals.
• Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students in all settings including working with and assigning responsibilities to support staff (position-specific).
• Monitors student behavior; maintains discipline in the classroom; deescalates inappropriate behaviors; teaches students to appropriate behavioral strategies; restrains students when necessary; records and reports all use of restraint techniques.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools to include any necessary adaptive, occupational, or physical equipment for students to access the curriculum.
• Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• Requires the ability to collect, interpret and use data to make decisions on student programs or progress.
• Requires the ability to receive instructions and/or support from program specialists and/or superiors regarding the job role and responsibilities.
• Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
• Follows a plan for professional development and demonstrates evidence of growth.
